You and Me Together
The foundation You and Me Together began as the brainchild of Jose Fuyana, a resident of Fisher Island, Florida. Mr. Fuyana, originally from Mendoza, Argentina, has always dreamed of helping at risk children in Latin America. David Bruce McMahan, financier, and other Fisher Island residents helped make Fuyana’s dream come true.
The foundation’s mission is to empower impoverished children through education, sports and other positive extracurricular activities. Positive activities equal positive results that not only inspire their hopes and dreams but empower them with the confidence to take action.
To Russia With Love
“To Russia With Love” is an outreach ministry to abandoned children in the former Soviet Union. It is an extension of the Russia Initiative of the United Methodist Church. My first visit to Russia was in 1996, after the fall of communism. As we visited mission sites supported by my denomination I was overcome with the plight of children who live in government orphanages. In Russia children end up in orphanages for various reasons. Due to a culture that admires perfection, children with physical and mental handicaps are seen as an embarrassment and turned over to orphanages.
Some children are removed from homes where they have been abused or neglected by alcoholic parents. Some are given up by young, single mothers who are unable or unwilling to raise them.
